WTF:Just WHY!!!??

The internet celebrity Tay Zonday has done a commerical for Dr. Pepper. That is all I am going to say.

The original masterpiece?

The Killion Floor

As you may or may not have heard, one of the bands that we’re bringing on like fresh water in a hot heat is a group out of Los Angeles named Orgone. For those not in the know, Orgone refers to a pseudoscientific theory and is a term coined by psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich for the “universal life energy” which he claimed to have discovered in published experiments in the late 1930s. Reich claimed that orgone energy was a “life energy” which filled all space, was blue in color, and that certain forms of illness were the consequence of depletion or blockages of the energy within the body.

That said, Orgone the band has a certain energy to it that will unblock your groove and unleash your ill-ness on the dance floor. I can tell you in my own inimitable what they are all about but I’ll stick to their press release. Besides they do a fine job telling you about themselves that I’ll let them explain… Continue reading

Freshwater Collins on this Friday’s 414 Music

Tune into this Friday’s 414 Music with Scott Mullins at 5:30pm.  He will have Freshwater Collins live in our studios.

Freshwater Collins’ music is a perfect reflection of the diverse backgrounds of its artists, resulting in a sound that is both as emotional as it is captivating. Calling on a wide range influences from The Flaming Lips to Hank Williams, from Muddy Waters to Led Zepplin has resulted a very soulful form of alterative rock from the upper Midwest. Currently, Freshwater Collins stands on the threshold of releasing their most ambitious project to date with the upcoming release of their new album “These Days Lately”.

Dirty Soul Mix

My thanks to Tarik Moody for inviting me to be his guest on last week’s Rhythm Lab. I was able to dig into my dusty, deep funk 45s and put together a 1 hour Dirty Soul Mix. Check it out and I hope you enjoy!

Video Tuesday: Los Mono

Not sure if anyone has caught the new tune we’ve been playing here at the station by the group Los Mono. The song, “Ponte Comodo” is a slithery batch of South American synthesizer funk, infectious as it is dance-able. In fact, it’s one of those cuts that I can’t resist getting down to– every time I hear it. While searching out videos for the blog I thought I’d try to find one for “Ponte Comodo” but came up empty. I do however have the scoop on these cats as well as a video for a different but excellent cut called “Promesas” (ie. promises) from the same album, Somos Los Que Estamos. Continue reading

Forget about the Super Bowl Ads

firebrandI admit it. I am sucker for a good commerical. I paid money to see the British Advertising Awards every year at the Walker Museum in Minneapolis. Now there will be a network on TV, web and mobile called Firebrand that will focus on the best advertising spots from around the world. The multi-platform network will debut tonight at 11pm EST on the Ion Television Network.

Firebrand features the most creative advertising, best video gametrailers and special promotions, providing a unique destination forcommercial culture. Firebrand programs TV commercials the way musicnetworks have programmed music videos. “Viewers are encouraged to ‘Opt-in,Search, Download and Share’ their favorite spots on TV, the web andmobile,” says John A. Lack, Chief Executive Officer/Co-Founder….Firebrand will enlist the aid of “Commercial Jockeys” or “CJs” who willguide the viewing audience through award-winning ads, exclusives, director’s cuts and never-before-seen-on-TV commercials. In its firstmonth, Firebrand will feature commercial celebrities like the Dell Dude,Ben Curtis, Capitol One’s angel, Jay Klaitz, and the young star of Mr.Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, Zach Mills.
