Wait A Milli…

Lil’ Wayne’s “A Milli” is already a huge hit as the big single from his new album The Carter III, but not many people know where the bones of the beat come from. But first, here is a breakdown of how it was done…

Now the beat to the song is sick, but I want y’ll to know A Tribe Called Quest was the one he got it from. While diggin’ I found a blog called SoMuchSilence where I got some of this post, namely the knowledge that the Tribe track comes off a remix album called Revised Quest for the Seasoned Traveller. And the song in question is I Left My Wallet in El Segundo (Vampire Mix). Oddly enough, the remix is from Norman Cook, go figure! I even found a freebie of it for ya!

  1. Thanks Marcus! i’m always interested in learning what songs are being sampled in hip hop cuts. the artists really deserve some credit. i always thought it would be cool to do something like the 5 o’clock shadow, except instead of an original and a cover, have a song from which the beat was sampled, and then the song that uses the sample. like Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band’s “Sunshower” and then MIA’s Sunshowers from Arular. keep rockin!
