The Best Part of the Oscars was a Commercial


I was trying to get some sleep last night so I decided to watch the Oscars (much better than sleeping pills). Then I came across a commercial about nuts. It was commercial for new product line from Frito-Lay called True North. True North held a competition called True North Stories. They were looking for people with stories of passion for making a difference.  The ad featured a Majora Carter who runs a non-profit organization called Sustainable South Bronx. She was telling her story about greening the South Bronx.  Majora Carter look familar and took me a while to figure where I have seen her from.  Then hit me. I watched a TED speech she gave couple of years ago on Greening the Ghetto.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

The main mission of TED is to spread ideas.  Going back to Majora Carter.  Her speech moved me because she was making being green not only practical but accessible to everyone especially in area like the South Bronx. If you saw the commercial check out her whole story through her own words in greater detail. Milwaukee can take her idea and apply to the urban areas here in Milwaukee.

  1. I saw that TED talk too. It’s awesome to see the project progress! Maybe next time I’m in New York, I’ll hit the Bronx… maybe.
