Are You Feeling This: Mayer Hawthorne, The Five One, and The Black Box Revelation

Lots of songs never make it to the radio that are getting lots of attention online. Live tracks, sanctioned and unsanctioned remixes, mash-ups, overlooked gems by unsigned artists. Every week on “Are You Feeling This,” we invite you to hear what the buzz is all about. You tell us what you think. Vote in the Are You Feeling This poll, leave a comment, send us an e-mail.

The Last winner of Are You Feeling This was Piper Davis & DJ Neighbor

This week on ”Are You Feeling This” we have music from young soul singer on the Stones Throw label Mayer Hawthorne, DC Hip Hop group The Five One, and a rock n roll duo out of Belgium called The Black Box Revelation. 1. The Five One are hypnotizing me…nice flip of Vampire Weekend’s groove…the song I most want to hear again. Best of the 3.

B.B.R. has some good energy.-#2 of the 3.

Mayer H. is just ok–#3. Earth to buzzmakers…his stuff is all…just ok. Not great.

  2. The Mayer Hawthorne track is great! Definitely my favorite of the 3 songs. Very reminiscent of old Motown, classic soul.

With that said, there’s some other great music here as well. I love The Five One’s flip Vampire Weekend’s “Kids Don’t Stand A Chance”.

I like the Black Box Revelation track too… but it’s probably my least favorite of the 3.

They’re all different, and great in their own way.
