Crate Digging With Mayer Hawthorne and Passion Pit

As you may heard, Mayer Hawthorne and Passion Pit are playing The Riverside Theater this Saturday, April 3rd.  This should be one of the best shows of 2010. If you can’t make to this show, 88Nine RadioMilwaukee got you covered. We will be broadcasting the Passion Pit Concert live and then re-broadcasting 15 minutes after the show ends. However, how many of you know that Mayer and Passion Pit are DJs…very good DJs.  Both have a serious passion for crate digging.  The cats over at Yours Truly follow both of them on a trek to find music gems known as wax. Check it out.

Plus here is a video shot in San Francisco at a Passion Pit. Just a little taste of what to expect.

Video | MGMT, “Flash Delirium”

Due to an album leak, MGMT’s sophomore release ‘Congratulations’ have been getting early reviews both good and bad. Is it a sophomore slump or not? All I can say, MGMT took a huge leap from their last album, and I can definitely respect that. The problem with most of these reviews are that people need something to compare it to.  Their first album was amazing, and most people expected them to do something similar or at least stay on the path, and so when they went off the path (way off), some felt cheated.  But remember MGMT is not Justin Bieber or whatever his name is, they are musicians and artists.  I remember what the critics said after Radiohead released ‘OK Computer’ after ‘The Bends’.  Just say it wasn’t pretty at least at first. Anyway check the video for Flash Delirium.

Video | VV Brown Doing It In A Cab

VV Brown

I’m kind of upset that I didn’t catch the UK singer/songwriter VV Brown down in Austin, TX for SXSW.  I heard she put on an amazing show. The following videos are the next best thing.  One of my favorite music video blog, The Black Cab Sessions, had VV Brown perform in one of London’s iconic black cab.  Then the following video is VV Brown performing in NYC iconic yellow cab.  If you want to catch VV Brown and Sweden sensation Little Dragon, you can tomorrow, April 1st in Chicago at Lincoln Hall. (Big ups to Giant Step for the knowledge)

Sound Travels Sunday to Monday

Just catching you all up on the Sound Travels front here. Got the Nomadik Mix from Sunday as well as the Monday’s session. Sunday’s set was all about Afrobeat and none of the names are Fela, Femi or Sean with nary a Tony Allen to even suggest their presence. Instead I focused on artists also participating in the sound, though in their own inimitably funky ways. Unfortunately, my playlist was deleted…though thankfully, the mix is intact and pretty hot at that.
