…And Ya Say Cal Tjader

Seven O Clock sample time!

This week we are exploring the tunes of the great jazz vibraphonist CAL TJADER!

Cal’s work spans over 50 decades.  He has consistently been one of the best in the biz. His hybrid salsa, jazz and calypso style always puts me in a good mood.

Cal has been sampled by many artists over the years, and this week I’m looking at some of my favorite Hip Hop Cal samples.

In 1995 Cal put out an album entitled SOLAR HEAT.

The first track on this LP was ” Never My Love” a Burt Bacharach classic re-worked by Cal.

Listen carefully at about 0:29.

This cut was sampled LATER THAT YEAR by  Producer Mark Sparks for Grand Puba’s underground classic…
