Jordan’s Great Orchestra Adventure.

Greetings world!

Morning show host Jordan Lee here!

Many of you may have heard about Present Music’s season opener this Saturday.  CONCERTO FOR TURNTABLES and ORCHESTRA’s American Premier will happen downtown Milwaukee this weekend.  You may have heard about Gabriel Prokofiev’s extraordinary composition that features a live DJ scratch part in the piece, but you may not know that I am the DJ for this performance!

Gabriel original wrote this piece with world champion scratch DJ, Yoda.  DJ Yoda performed recently here in Milwaukee…

The UK premier of this piece was something the world have never seen…

When I was originally asked to participate in this performance, I was fairly casual about the idea.  I one movement of the piece and thought, “Ok, I gotta scratch over this orchestra.”  But that was the understatement of the year.  The 5 movement composition includes a well notated and complex DJ part, that includes scratches, beat juggles, tone melodies and scratch drumming.  It’s intense!

I began rehearsals with the group on Wednesday, and feel very comfortable now with the ensemble.  Everyone has been very welcoming and helpful with the production.  Most of all, I’ve forged a great relationship with Gabriel.  He has a very unique approach to composition, and his label  NONCLASSICAL is home to some of the most unusual music I’ve heard in a very long time.

Here is a sneak peek of what you will see this Saturday if you come to Turner Hall.

The show kicks off at 8pm,  and for  limited special offer, you can see the show for only $10. Just use the code “DJ” when you purchase the tickets online or just called (414)271-0711.

Concert | Ghostland Observatory | The Pabst Theater September 9th

Credit: Daniel Perlaky

Ghostland Observatory is a group best enjoyed live. Their shows are extravagant: lots of lasers, fog and their outfits are as loud as the beats (check that vampire cape).

Ghostland  make a unique blend of crunchy electro-dance rock that rockers can dance to and dancers can rock to.

The duo consists of Aaron Behrens on vocals, occasional guitar and general swagger and Tom Turner on drums, keys and synthesizer.

Formed in Austin, they are equally influenced by the blues and psychedelic rock of that area as well as early electronic music and disco.

They list influences like Bowie and Queen (Aaron is often compared to Freddie Mercury), but they also clearly appreciate the sounds of Daft Punk too.

Get there early to get a good spot and bring your dancing shoes. Also playing: Asher Diamonds of local DJ group The Glamour.

This morning I had the opportunity to have Kelsy Koffman and Sean Hieser in from the Jackpot Gallery in Riverwest on the Morning show to talk about this weekend’s RIVERWEST FEST.
Last year they began a DIY art studio in Riverwest called the Jackpot Gallery. Jackpot soon began to feature shows in the basement, which they dubbed the Eagle’s Nest.
As the nest grew in popularity, the city began to take notice to the crowds, and the Fire Department advised that they bring the venue up to code, or face some serious violations and fines.
In an attempt to become a legit venue, Kelsy and the gang are hosting a weekend long fundraiser called RIVERWEST FEST.

Here is my interview with the gang…

Event | Milwaukee’s Fresh Cut Collective CD Release Party, May 29th at Mad Planet

I have been waiting for this release for a long time from Milwaukee’s livest Hip Hop band Fresh Cut Collective. When these cats open up for Atlanta’s The Constellations at Mad Planet a few months back, they got the crowd jumping. Before that, they were in our studios for 414  Music, and performed an amazing stripped down session.  In little over week, the spotlight will be on the Fresh Cut Collective as they finally put out their debut release on Milwaukee’s Uni-Fi Records. Mad Planet will be the place where they will introduce Milwaukee to the sound of Fresh Cut Collective with a CD release party on May 29th. For a small price of $10, you will get a live show and a CD. You can’t beat that. Check out this video of the band recording their song “Bumblebee” then catch them at Stonefly. I guarantee you will be sweating from dancing to this talented band.
