Freebie: Broken Bells, “The High Road”

The mysterious project from Danger Mouse and James Mercer of The Shins have finally revealed itself in the form of a new website and free single (well at least for a limited time). The project is called Broken Bells, and I briefly mentioned it about a week ago. The song has folky soulful thing going for itself.  Definitely worth checking out! The album will be released on Columbia on March 9th, 2010. It will have 10 tracks with all the instruments performed by Danger Mouse (aka Brian Burton), except for string arrangements handled by composer Daniele Luppi.  Listen to the track and below and you grab the song from the Broken Bells site for free for a limited time.

Note: This is not the first time for this collaboration between the two, they recorded a track for the never released Dark Night of the Soul.

Forget Jingle Bells, how about some Broken Bells?

I really do not like Jingle Bells, but the idea of Broken Bells sounds like music to my ears. What the hell am I’m talking about, you ask.  Broken Bells is a new project from Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) and James Mercer (The Shins), and it is shrouded in mystery. The project is a full band.  You can sign up for email updates from their site. If you like to hear some sound samples visit these sites which are anagrams of Broken Bells.

Beck Baroque

Well I guess if you invite Danger Mouse to be the co-producer of your 8th album, you are gonna find yourself experimenting with some odd samples.
That’s what happened when Beck teamed up with the Gnarles Barkley producer on his 2008 release MODERN GUILT.

This avant-garde sample comes from an odd French music team known as Paul Piot & Paul Guiot.
Here is there song “Amour, vacances et baroque”

Beck + Danger Mouse = Sweet!

As some of you may know, Beck has a new album coming out entitled “Modern Guilt” This is album is produced by Danger Mouse who also produced the latest Black Keys records. Danger Mouse is turning into the next Rick Rubin, and it all started with a mash-up album entitled “The Grey Album” which mashed up Jay-Z’s “Black Album” and the Beatles’ “White Album”. Check out the new track Chemtrails.
