Nancy Wilson provides a lil’ Honey

Today’s 7 O Clock sample continues to explore the music of Ms. Erykah Badu.
“Honey” was released as the lead single from her third studio album, New Amerykah Part One (4th World War) The track came out last year, and was produced by 9th Wonder.

9th Wonder was diggin’ deep on this one! He went all the way back to 1978 and sampled Nancy Wilson’s track “I’m In Love”

A touch of Summer

I’m so happy to be back in the studio after a much needed vacation. With a new Tuesday, comes another 7 O Clock sample.
Today I wanted to take a look at a very popular sample….

This track appeared on Light of Worlds, which was the seventh album released by Kool & the Gang, released on January 1, 1974.
Sound firmilar? Well this track has been sampled many, many times.
Jazzy Jeff, Pete Rock, Digable Planets, Ice Cube, GangStarr, and on her album BADUIZM, the lovely Erykah Badu.

Erykah Badu briefly talks about her forthcoming album: New Amerykah, Part II: Return of the Ankh

As I mentioned on Twitter and Facebook a few days ago, Erykah Badu will be dropping the second album in her New Amerykah series entitled “Return of Ankh”.  Well the folks at Creative Control (some of the same people behind BlakRoc) got a chance to hear the album at an exclusive listening party for the album hosted by Badu.  They videotaped Erykah talking a little bit about the album, but unfortunately they did not record any of the actual listening of the album.  This just makes even more anxious.  Badu’s album is scheduled to be released February 23rd, 2010.

Video: Common x Kanye West x Erykah Badu Live @ SXSW

Vodpod videos no longer available.

So I missed another SXSW, and by all the the tweets it was really good.  I have to figure to get our station to send me down next time. To be honest, I was getting sick of all the SXSW tweets though. However, this video of Erykah, Common and Kanye performing “The Light” was real nice, and I would have love to see that. One, because it was in a small setting and not in an arena or huge venue. Freebie: Erykah Badu + My Morning Jacket Collaborating Live

I found this great performance of Erykah Badu and My Morning Jacket performing the song Tyrone live in Dallas.  If you don’t remember that My Morning Jacket did an amazing cover of the song at Bonnaroo this past year.

Freebie: Trace Magazine

Some of my close friends know that I am a magazine freak. I hate to throw away cool magazines. If you come to my house, my closet is filled with magazines instead of clothes.

One of my favorite magazine is produce out of NYC. It is called Trace. What it is even cool is that my co-host girlfriend and friend Sarah White writes for them. She wrote a cool article on this artist named TK Wonder in this issue with Erykah Badu and Q-Tip on the cover. You can download the issue for free.

Does anyone know where I can get this magazine in Milwaukee? I have been all over the place.
