Screamin’ Jay gets Just A Touch

It’s Thursday, so it must be time for another edition of the 7 o clock sample. Today’s selection was inspired by a conversation with my good buddy, KID CUT UP. Cut Up and I were discussing the use of today’s sample while I was playing this song….

The lovely miss Estelle teamed up with the great Will.I.Am for this one. Will’s sample choice is brought to us by the original rock and roll shock rocker, SCREAMIN’ JAY HAWKINS and his hit ” I Put A Spell On You ”

Here’s an early televised performance of Jay’s hit…

Estelle – “Come Over” from the album “Shine”

This is our third song from the multi-talented singer, mc, songwriter from England. She has caught America by storm. Estelle has even been compared to Lauryn Hill. She is the first artist on John Legend’s label Homeschool.

Mailcall: Duffy, “Mercy”

I have had this 45 from A new blue eyed soul singer Duffy from the UK for a while now. She has been called the next Amy Winehouse. She actually reminds me more of a Dusty Springfield than a Winehouse. Actually, I was skeptical of the cover. She kind of look like a friend of Spears, or Lohan. After I got over my preconceived notions, I finally checked it out, and I have to say it is very catchy. I still like Estelle better.

Check it out for yourself. Also check her cover of Hot Chip’s “Ready For the Floor”

Freebie: Black Girls Rule!

I just got an email today. It contain a link to song called “Black Girls Remix” by UK MC by the name of Tor. I was first introduced to Tor’s music by Karen P. who use to produce the Gilles Peterson Worldwide radio show on the BBC. According to the email, this track is a dedication to Estelle’s American Boy which reached #1 on the UK Charts which is an amazing because it is rare to see a black woman reach the top spot in England.

I love the message and her flow is amazing. Check it out for yourself.
