Video | VV Brown Doing It In A Cab

VV Brown

I’m kind of upset that I didn’t catch the UK singer/songwriter VV Brown down in Austin, TX for SXSW.  I heard she put on an amazing show. The following videos are the next best thing.  One of my favorite music video blog, The Black Cab Sessions, had VV Brown perform in one of London’s iconic black cab.  Then the following video is VV Brown performing in NYC iconic yellow cab.  If you want to catch VV Brown and Sweden sensation Little Dragon, you can tomorrow, April 1st in Chicago at Lincoln Hall. (Big ups to Giant Step for the knowledge)

In just one week, 88Nine Producer Adam Carr and myself will be heading to SXSW interactive, film, music conference and festival, so we decided to do a SXSW edition of “Are You Feeling This”.  All of the artists featured are performing at this year’s SXSW in Austin, TX. The first song comes from singer/songwriter Julie Peel out of Cannes, France. Julie Peel unleashed her debut full-length album on American Laundromat Records (ALR) September 22nd, and has been enjoying rave reviews. She is playing at SXSW at Paradise on March 20th.
Check out the rest of her album “Near The Sun”
Next up is a band out of Brazil that goes by the name of Copacobana Club. The band’s sound can be describe as an indie rock band with a Brazilian flavor. The band formed back in 2007 and their inspiration was to simply make good dance music and the track below is an example of that.
You can also download more of their music for free. Download their EP called King of The Night for free.

The final artist comes from the country of Sweden, which as of late has been producing a lot of great artists. Her name is Miss Li, and you have probably heard her music in a recent ipod nano video. From Wikipedia:
Linda Carlsson (born July 6, 1982), better known by her stage name Miss Li, is a Swedish singer. She was born in Borlänge, but now lives in Stockholm. Her single “Don’t Try To Fool Me” has been featured on the Showtime original series Weeds, as well as Grey’s Anatomy. Her song “Bourgeois Shangri-La” from the album Dancing the Whole Way Home was used by Apple in the iPod Nano 5G television commercial. Her song “Oh Boy” was used in a 2010 Volvo advert.

Are You Feeling This (SXSW Edition) | Amp Live, Antennas Up, Anita Tijoux and Avi Buffalo

Lots of songs never make it to the radio that are getting lots of attention online. Live tracks, sanctioned and unsanctioned remixes, mash-ups, overlooked gems by unsigned artists. Every week on “Are You Feeling This,” we invite you to hear what the buzz is all about. You tell us what you think. Vote in the Are You Feeling This poll, leave a comment, send us an e-mail.

In two weeks 88Nine Producer Adam Carr and myself will be heading to SXSW interactive, film, music conference and festival, so we decided to do a SXSW edition of “Are You Feeling This”.  All of the artists featured are performing at this year’s SXSW in Austin, TX. We have music from Amp Live of Zion I, Antennas Up, Chilean hip hop aritst Anita Tijoux, and Sub Pop artist Avi Buffalo. Take a listen below and let us know what you think by voting in the “Are You Feeling This” listener poll.

The first song comes from an artist that has had his share of the headlines in the past.  His name is Amp Live. He is the producer, and DJ for the west coast hip hop group Zion I.  He made waves with his Radiohead remix project called RainyDayz.  Apparently, Radiohead’s label gave Amp Live a cease & desist notic not to release his remix project, which was to be released for free. Amp Live made a plea via YouTube to Thom Yorke and the band.  Thom Yorke sided with Amp Live and allowed him to release his remix project.  Amp Live has a solo album coming out called,”Murder At The DiscoTeck” and Gary Is  A Robot is the first single from the album.  He will be performing at SXSW.

The second song comes from a band out of Kansas City, and they go by the name of Antennas Up. The band’s sound comprises of pop, electro, with a dash of funk. They definitely have a sound that will fill up the dancefloor.  I would love them to play with Milwaukee’s Codebreaker. Antennas Up will be playing at Spill on March 20th at 8pm in Austin, TX during SXSW.
Antennas Up – “Don’t Wait Up” (download)
This next artist comes from Chile.  Her name is Anita Tijoux and she is a MC.  I’m very concerned for her and the people of Chile after that tragic eathquake this past weekend. Anita was born in France and she pays homage to the early 90’s era of hip hop on her latest album called “1977”, the year she was born. Anita is supposed to headline the Chilean Music Showcase at SXSW on March 20th at Maggie Mae’s. Our prayers go out to her and all of Chile.

The final song comes from Avi Buffalo who are a labelmate of Milwaukee’s Jaill.  The band is out of Long Beach, California. Avi Buffalo was once just the kid named Avi (short for Avigdor Zahner Isenberg). The following song “What’s In It For?” is what got them noticed by Sub Pop, one of the most important indie labels in the country. Avi Buffalo will be playing the Sub-Pop showcase on March 18 at 10pm at The Galaxy Room in Austin, TX.

Freebie | 2010 SXSW (Unofficial) Torrent: +3.45 Gigs of music

It is almost time for one of the biggest music and media conferences in the country. SXSW kicks off in Austin, TX on March 12th. This year, 88Nine RadioMilwaukee will be there covering it (well at least Adam and Tarik will be).  There will be hundreds of bands and artist performing in Austin.  If you are going, you are probably asking yourself, who should I see?  Well for the last few years some nice person has putting together a torrent of mp3s from most of the artists performing at SXSW.  Volume 1 of this torrent has about 3.4 GB of music. Volume 2 has not been release yet.  Volume includes 646 songs, which you can download now.

Just to let you know, I spent all day Sunday going through everyone of the 646 songs (yes, I do not have a life).  I picked out 141 artists that might be interesting to see.  So starting later today to the beginning of the festival, I will posting 10 of those 141 songs daily.  In the meantime, why don’t you download the torrent and let me know which of those songs are your favorites.

If you need help downloading torrents, just check this beginner’s guide out.

Video: Common x Kanye West x Erykah Badu Live @ SXSW

Vodpod videos no longer available.

So I missed another SXSW, and by all the the tweets it was really good.  I have to figure to get our station to send me down next time. To be honest, I was getting sick of all the SXSW tweets though. However, this video of Erykah, Common and Kanye performing “The Light” was real nice, and I would have love to see that. One, because it was in a small setting and not in an arena or huge venue. Freebie: This is the Biggest Freebie to Date – Music from SXSW 09 Performing Artists.

sxsw09

As you know, SXSW 09 is coming up real soon, and it keeps getting bigger and bigger.  Unfortunately, due to the recession and the fact I spent my money to go to DC for the Inauguration (well worth it), I can’t attend this year’s festivities in Austin, TX unless some of you generous people would like to sponsor me!  However, I got the next best thing.  How about over 5 gigs of free legal music from all of the performing artists at this year’s SXSW. You can download the music in two parts via torrents.  Here are the links.  If you are new to torrents and how they work, check this link.

I will be downloading myself and picking out my favorites and posting them in the coming days.
